LinkedIn Database Strategy – Quality over Quantity

2 November 2010

Your LinkedIn database is a powerful source of referrals for you, your clients and your contacts.

In developing your database it is worthwhile to consider a quality over quantity growth strategy. This involves only accepting invitations to connect from people you know, have met or have been referred to.

Here are three benefits from adopting a quality over quantity database strategy.

1.    Improved potential to refer opportunities of quality to your clients and contacts/connections.

2.    Increased confidence to facilitate introductions for your clients and contacts/connections to help them begin new relationships.

3.    Better chance to help your clients and contacts/connections to grow their businesses.

It is important to have confidence in your LinkedIn database to ensure that you can be the best facilitator to generate business for your clients, contacts and, of course, yourself!

Accepting every invitation to connect to simply build your number of connections can reduce your ability to facilitate introductions of quality and make the development of relationships more difficult.

If you want to move to a more quality focused database strategy, try these two actions.

1. It is never too late to reintroduce yourself to a connection you haven’t spoken to in some time. Look through your LinkedIn connections and reintroduce yourself to one of your contacts. Suggest meeting for a 1-2-1 and start building a relationship.

2. The next time you receive an invitation to connect from someone you don’t know, send them an e-mail, before accepting their invite, to find out more about them. Suggest a telephone conversation or a meeting.
